On their route to the annual Alford Motorcycle Convention Gathering, the crowds gathered in Tomintoul on the eve of a mass ride out on Sunday morning.
Saturday 7th September 2013 Tomintoul hosted the pre-Alford Motorcycle Convention Gathering. There was live music and entertainment in the form of the Extreme Wheelie Machine and Bike Displays by the Bon Accord MCC with demonstration by trials rider BRAIN MARR, before the band DC79 took to the village hall stage rocking the night away.
After a good breakfast, the bikes headed up and over the Lecht and down Donside, exploring some of the most beautiful sceneries and riding some of the highest roads in the country!
The furthest travelled biker attending the Gathering won a lovely bottle of Tomintoul 10 year old Single Malt Whisky. Hopefully this will keep his cockles warm on the long journey home!
Following the successful launch of the first-ever Tomintoul Distillery single cask which featured a 1981 Bourbon cask, the distillery has released a rare single Sherry cask edition of its award-winning malt range from the 1977 distillation.
This rare single Sherry cask release has been bottled in an attractive 70cl decanter style bottle and is presented in a stylish gift box. The whisky was distilled on the April 12 since in Sherry cask number 3691.
This cask was selected for the exceptional quality of the mature malt whisky. Bottled this summer at 54.9% ABV, the whisky has not been chill-filtered so as to retain its full flavours. Only 312 bottles were produced and each bottle has been individually numbered. The bottle label also records the cask number and the date of distillation and bottling.
Just to let you know; the inaugural launch of the 1981 Bourbon cask completely sold out in the first month – so you better be quick of the mark for this one!!
Colour: Radiant, golden mahogany
Nose: Luscious, sweet, nutty-mature liquid fruit-cake dusted with crushed sultana, easing to drier, spicy oak tones
Palate: Sherry trifle, glacé cherries and muscovado sweetness, all nicely balanced with a spicy, mature oak note of cigar boxes. Deliciously complex.
Finish: Cocoa, vanilla and fudge climb to a dried-date climax.
